Cross-Age Teaches 6th Graders About Health Issues With Tobacco Use...

Several high school students shared their research and understanding about the health problems which arise from tobacco use. Mrs. Stanzione, high school counselor, coordinated the educational day with the members of the sixth grade team. The students utilized power point presentations, as well as speeches regarding tobacco use. They also had impressive presentations to show how the lungs fill up with tobacco. A big thank you goes out to all the high school students and Mrs. S!

LTMS Students had the opportunity to job shadow administrators and school counselors at Shick Elementary School recently. Please read complete story (below).

Career Exploration and Job Shadowing

Career exploration is a major component of the Middle School Program at Loyalsock Township Middle School (LTMS). By affording our students the opportunity to experience a wide variety of careers, we hope to further their understanding, as well as magnify the importance of education.
We recognize the middle school years as a crucial time period and we aim at helping students to begin to identify their talents and plan for their futures. Many students wish to pursue specific careers, but do not fully understand what each entails, or even which classes to take in high school, to be adequately prepared. Every year our students are provided with the opportunity to learn first-hand, about their possible career path. At LTMS this day is referred to as COOL Day. COOL is an acronym for Career Opportunities On Location, and is coordinated by our Director of Student Services Mrs. Christina Herman.
In addition, the 8th graders benefit from Career Experts in the Classroom. This day brings professionals from a vast array of occupations to the school to speak about their daily work routines, factors that motivated them to enter their profession, and skills that can be developed at the present time to enhance their future endeavors. Career Day works to inform our students of the skills needed to be successful, not only in a career, but in life. Although our teachers emphasize these skills every day, hearing about the importance of public speaking, effective writing, critical analysis, and organization from an “outside source” helps to make the message more pertinent. By promoting an assortment of professions, we hope to encourage each and every student in their career exploration.

The legacy of Greece is vast

The Greeks founded the modern spirit of inquiry and Mrs. Walls' sixth grade students delve into discovering ancient Greece. They explore the world of Greeks dressed as real characters of ancient Greece, investigating Greek architecture at the Acropolis, performing the playwright's theater, participating in a Socratic discussion at the Academy, and voting at the Assembly with Pericles presiding. Like the Greeks the students will have a Festival Day presenting their research projects.
