Fitness Challenge Winners Honored

The winners of the Fitness Challenge from Loyalsock Middle School are pictured with Mrs. Remsnyder: Chase McNulty, Larry VanStavoren and Alexa Cranmer.
The fitness challenge is aimed at getting kids to exercise more and awards points to kids at the rate of one point for one minute of physical activity, with double points if a student exercises with a parent. This program involved more than a dozen school districts.
This year they added a fruits and veggies component where students can earn points for eating healthier snacks and at meal times. Children learned fitness and nutrition is as important to success in school and in life.
The 2012 Lycoming County Fitness Challenge kicked off on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Pickelner Area in Williamsport and ran through February 17, 2012. The challenge was created to encourage kids and their family to exercise more over the winter months when people tend to be less active.
The basic idea is that the children receive 1 point for every minute of out of school activity they do. If they a family member participate in the activity with them, their points are doubled. In 2011, we added a Nutritional component to the Challenge, where for every serving of a fruit and vegetable they eat, they will receive a point.
